Personality:
If one were to describe Ketsueki's personality in short, they would most likely describe him as a pessimistic, passive badass. He is a very patient man, though he can have a bad attitude at times or get stressed easily, but it doesn't last very long and he tends not to overreact to most situations. He will hide his attitude with sarcasm and a try to maintain a cool front. He is a man of few words and believes his actions speak louder. Despite this, he can very philosophical and his words will always have meaning. Though he is good natured at heart, he strictly follows the way of the shinobi. When he is on the job, his mission takes top priority.
In battle, his personality is only slightly different. He becomes cold blooded and seemingly stoic. He is always calculating his next move, taking every detail into account. He remains calm, silent, and deadly in any situation; a true assassin. He avoids unnecessary movement to the best of his abilities and will only act when he deems it necessary. He will, however, refrain from holding back against any opponent, as even a lion uses all of his strength to catch a rabbit; this would explain the origin of his nickname, as it means "death".
The life of a shinobi is rather stressful on Ketsueki and his personality has given him a certain image that he takes pride in. Because of this, he relieves his pent up stress by smoking cigarettes on his spare time. He is not sure if he's become addicted and even claims that he could quit any time he felt like, but he chooses not to quit, to his knowledge anyway.
Though he himself is an atheist, he will give his opponent the opportunity to pray to their god or gods when in an open confrontation. He feels as if this is a sign of respect for his opponent, though it could be misunderstood to be arrogance. He has done this from even before his graduation at the academy and continued to do so until it became a reflexive habit.
Though there is very little that he appreciates, he takes a certain liking to those who can think "outside of the box". He believes in originality and dislikes those that are normal, despite being a textbook example of what a shinobi should be. He has a certain envy for those who live a normal life and personally dislikes those that lead the life of a shinobi; though dislike would better be described as pity. He longs to end his life as a shinobi though continues to do so out of obligation to his village and clan.

History:

Pre-Academy Arc:
Ketsueki was born and raised in the ninja village, Konohagakure. He was raised by both his parents while under the influence of his clan and taught the ways of the shinobi at a very young age. His mother was a very caring and gentle kind of person and always looked out for Ketsueki in an overprotective manner. His father, however, was of direct decent to the Akira clan and felt it to be a custom that all those of direct blood relations to the Akira clan should become a shinobi. He was harsh, strict, and philosophical. His way of bonding involved harsh tutoring sessions about the ways of the Shinobi. He was given assignments and tests to do in order record and grade his progress before being entered into the Shinobi Academy. His mother, however, was completely against the idea and often tried to convince his father out of it. These attempts always ended in his father stating that Ketsueki would be bringing honor to both him and his family if he became a strong Shinobi and that it was what he wanted. Ketsueki dared not go against his father and would always agree to this statement when asked for an opinion.
